Things to do
A flourishing and vibrant city, there is plenty to do in the fine city of Norwich, Norfolk. Here are just a few things we can recommend…
Norwich has a fascinating past – an important Anglo-Saxon market town at the time of the Norman invasion, it grew to become one of the leading cities of England by the early Middle Ages and second only to London in the 16th and 17th centuries1. Norwich Castle is one of the city’s most famous landmarks built by the Normans 900 years ago. It’s a fantastic museum giving visitors a glimpse into how things were, housing an outstanding collection of artwork too; great for adults and children alike. We also recommend a trip to Norwich Cathedral – a beautiful, historical building just 15 minutes walk away.
Where to start? In and around Norwich there is a whole range of attractions to suit different budgets and age groups. Admire picturesque gardens, have fun at award winning Banham Zoo, brace yourself for an adrenaline rush at Pleasurewood Hills theme park or, for the more energetic, head over to Go Ape, a high wire course set in Thetford forest, enjoy fabulous art, relax and unwind with a day out on a boat on the Broads…For a different way to explore the wonderful Norfolk countryside why not travel by steam train?
Putting on fun and lively shows, The Theatre Royal and Maddermaket Theatre are both popular and close to the Inn. Norwich Playhouse, a relaxed intimate riverside venue theatre developed from an old maltings building, is recognised as one of the best comedy venues in East Anglia. With so much on offer it’s clear to see why Norwich is fast establishing itself as a city of culture.
One of our favourite things is to take a trip up to the coast, often Cromer, have a refreshing walk on the pier, take in the fantastic views, and of course treat ourselves to some fresh local fish and chips!
Voted as one of the top 10 shopping destinations in the UK, Norwich offers a great mix of large shopping centres, department stores, and creative independent shops and boutiques, many of which can be found in the Norwich lanes area.
